Problem with choosing accessories

I've been researching through every thread of this forum and I just want to confirm this package to go along with the RED.

Will 18'' rods be enough to accommodate those accessories? I am not going to get the RED LCD immeadetly but when I do will I need the 12'' rods for the topside combo?

Also I've read a lot about how RED is branding Pelican Cases does anyone know good resource to purchase ATA Cases I think they are called, or Guardsman Cases? They are hard cases with metal latches.

Now am I missing anything?

You might want to consider getting the LCD as there's no way to know when the EVF will ship. Also, back up cables, back up cables, back up cables. Oh yeah, and the CF module is a MUST HAVE, and so are the flash cards - at least four of them.
What else? Lens? Or are you renting them?

I don't know your budget or how you plan on using the camera but I personally bought at least one of everything RED offers including the stuff not shipping. I know not everyone can do this though. You really need to understand what your use is going to be and then select accordingly.

Ya I know the CF Module is something you have to buy. I know that. I will buy probably 4 CF Cards.

You are totally right about the cables. I will do that. And yes I will be renting the lenses and the tripod. I was just a little unsure about the ET top combo plate. Should I get an extra set of bolts?

You need to buy the red drive cable separately. Doesn't come with the drive and runs $200

We also use the EVF cable for both LCD and EVF as it appears to work for both.
The EVF cable is longer and it has a right angle on both ends and works better as well wit the 9" arm in hand held mode. Plenty of room to put the lcd in a good operating position.

Why the big deal about backup cables?

That they're proprietary cables so if one goes down on set you really, really want to have a backup in place that instant.

It's sheer folly (in the pro field, at least) to try to save a few hundred bucks on a ~$30k camera rig when that could put the whole thing out of action and loose you not only a lot of cash on one shoot, but probably a bunch of future work as well.

Of course, if you're a super-low budget indie outfit that is happy to "self insure" your own shoots, then it's your decision and you might decide to try to make a saving wherever possible, but I still think it's a false economy even then - how long do you need to hold your average shoot up for it to cost you few hundred bucks? That's the question...

Horses for courses, of course(!), but I think most will want that insurance that they're kit is going to work 100% of the time on set (or as close to it as it is feasibly possible to plan for).

Isn't the ET topside combo 15mm? Just making sure that you know that the top rails will be a different size than the bottom if you go that route.
