Curious as to what mics you are using/plan on using with the Duet. I am consider whether or not to get the Duet for field, editing work as well...

The Duet is a great box. Apogee makes terrific products. However, one question: Are you recording straight to a mac instead of the camera? If you can afford it, I'd probably use a Sound Devices MixPre and then use the line ins (or XLR ins unpowered) on the Duet. However, if all you can afford is one of those, the Duet is a good choice.

I would not use a duet for this. I love the Duet and use one for podcasting and such, but they are made for the home recording musician, not for the cinematographer. Depending on your budget I could recommend some similar products that could go dual use recording/shooting. If your recording on a mac and have the firewire interfaces, the PreSonus FirePod might be a good choice for you. One thing to beware though. If your going to be moving around, Firewire cables have a tendency to shake loose. What you really should get is a field recorder like the Fostex FR-2LE. Record all your audio to that, then transfer it over to a computer when your done. Make sure you pay attention when buying, not all field recorders have XLR inputs.
