I would like to add one more thing:

Lot of people are waiting for NAB to buy their new cameras - and I mean LOT!!! Just browse forums like this one and You will get the picture...

Now most of them are having budgets between 2~5K (Clearly NAB is not consumer show and people with budgets around 1K would have already bought HV20 or HV30)...
And people with larger budgets are already wait-listed for RED ONE's ;o) - and they are not after Scarlet...

If RED releases Scarlet, but people would have to be wait-listed for god knows how long - they will go and buy something else. Maybe not everyone, but many. Realistic delivery would be within 30 days from date of purchase.

I am certainly one of them. Our company is about to start producing TV show and I have to choose (and buy) our camera platform by end of May. We are thinking roughly 5~7 cameras. As much as might love what Scarlet is going to be - if I can't get hold of it this year, I will go with Canon (due to the excellent glass we already have and share with our photo department)...

    Lets see...

I'm finally getting my RED's and now that I know about Scarlet, I'll likely end up buying IT as well, but nothing in the near future will replace RED, not for me, not for some time to come.

Scarlet, it will be no doubt a great camera, but not even close as to be considering IT vs. RED.

I think very likely the Scarlet will be my behind the scene camera.

well call me crazy, but this poll is kinds hard for me too answer. on the one hand i have not ordered anything yet but am seriously looking at the red. on the other I DON"T KNOW WHAT SCARLETT IS YET! how can i make a decision until i at least have more info than "POCKET PROFESSIONAL CAMERA" having said that i am gonna go with the red on the poll simply by the pocket basis, pocket says to me too small to be taken serious as professional. although i hope to be wrong so that i can change my mind when it does come time to order.

I'm one of those people. Either I pop for Scarlet now, or continue to save for Red One, or I throw more of my money at Sony or Panny, which I'm tired of doing.

I feel like Scarlet is a bit of a ways off, only because I can't imagine RED just saying "Here she is. Hope you like her."

I imagine them showing a prototype and asking "This is what we were thinking; any ideas?"

Also, in terms of price, I don't see why someone can't fix all the problems of a HV20 (1080p, approx $800), record it to CF cards in Redcode, and charge under $2000 for it. And if anyone can do it, it's RED.

I don't think Red owners should feel threatened by Scarlet. Why would they make a camera even remotely close to RED ONE. They already own the cinema marked as I see it and the RED ONE is about twice as small than about any other cinema camera out there.

My shoot on this would be a insane EFP/ENG camera. Small, easy to handle and superb image quality (sharp/not shallow DOF) for a one man run N gun show. No more heavy shoulder cam to get those top notch pictures. A real action cam if you want. And if they succeed they get a big piece of both markeds... $

And btw. Jannard need a small fender cam :)

I imagine scarlet will find its way into eng and the documentary films all over the world. if it is what we think it is. maybe that will help all those stations go HD - just need the work flow to sing with all the apps we use. can't wait until after effects and colour can read r3d files natively with no export until final output

The question was whether RED ONE owners (and especially wait-listed owners) are going to be "upset", not "threatened", by the announcement (and a possible release) of 2K Scarlet...

4K is the equivalent of 65mm IMAX, while the equivalent of 35mm is 2K. Indi filmmakers have been "satisfied" even with MiniDV, not to mention the current wave of HDV gear (with prices bellow 1K). For many 2K is more then enough.

More than the resolution I think they are looking for variable frame rates, digital RAW data acquisition and interchangeable lenses...

Year ago the only "affordable" camera offering this was RED ONE (coupling it with 4K ability and host of other PRO features). This was before HVX200...

I believe that many would "settle" for "just 2K" if they had a chance - especially giving the fact that we can expect the price to be bellow 5K...

Just see the current poll - 7 (compared to 5) of the "wait-listed" owners would have considered Scarlet instead of RED ONE, have they been given a chance... Even 3 (compared to 6) of the lucky guys who already have RED ONE would have considered Scarlet instead of RED ONE...

I am not saying that Scarlet will compete with RED ONE or be anywhere near it. It will probably "cannibalize" few RED ONE sales, but make up for it in the volumes...

RED is clearly backlogged with RED ONE orders, now imagine what is going to happen when Scarlet's out...
