  1. #1 TORONTO RED OWNERS - Projector Test
Calling all Toronto Red Owners: I'd like your help.

I am working on a documentary about rear-projection, the old-style film-projector-driven rear projection. We have some rear projection to shoot in June and we are interested in using the RED Camera for the shoot. However, before we commit to the RED for this we'd like to test the camera with the Hansard film projector to make 100% sure that we can make this work perfectly (given the rolling shutter.)

I am looking for an eager volunteer who would be willing to take their RED camera system to Ray McMillan's shop in Toronto. Ray is affiliated with the Hansard family who for generations were responsible for rear projection on many (nearly all!) Hollywood projects which used the process. To do a test with the RED camera all I would need is a RED camera, lens and operator with a working knowledge of the camera, shutter, gen-lock & menu system. The operator would also need to know how to translate the 'footage' into quicktime files to send to us. Ray would set up his Hansard Mitchell projector at his shop.

The reason we're not doing the test ourselves is that the director of the project is in London, England for the next few months and I'm in Pittsburgh until June. Ray, in Toronto, has kindly volunteered his time to do the test. Are there any RED owners out there who would like to help us and do the same?

    Thanks in advance!

Talk to Penny Watier at PS. We'll see if we can help.
