  1. #1 Nikon lens mount suggestion
Hoping to use some Nikon lenses on my RED, I have 17-35, 50 1.4, 55 macro, 105 2.5, 105 macro, 180 2.8. One problem I have found in the past with adapters for Nikon is that the locking spring mechanism doesn't lock the lenses tightly enough and when turning focus ring sometimes the lens will slip a bit - not an issue with stills but it is with movies if you're pulling focus. Maybe this won't be an issue if the RED mount is very well made, but just wondering if it would be possible to make a breech-lock type mount (ie like a PL or old Canon FD) as this will always clap the lens on tighter. The other advantage is that the lens can be slid in directly rather than needing a twist. Never seen this done with Nikon, but don't see why it shouldn't be, surely just a matter of making a mount with flanges slightly wider at one end than the other, with a ring to pull the mount's flanges in front of those on the lens and as the wider end starts to bite it'll lock. Or are there issues that I'm not aware of?

My experience is after putting about 10 lenses on the Nikon mount none slipped while focusing. I could grab every one of them and turn them 1mm or so. While looking in the viewfinder I could see no effect. The motion is rotational and doesn't change the distance from the focal plane.

You're way more likely to see an issue with the focusing mechanism built into the lens shifting. I saw that on a couple autofocus lenses. The manual ones all seemed pretty good so far.

Don't worry about the mount IMHO. YMMV.
