    Both are good!

A 6 core Mac Pro Trashcan will transcode 5k Epic material full-debayer at around 15-18 fps, additionally you'll need a TB2 chassis for the Rocket-X, which will only run at 2/3 speed over TB2, so when you get a Rocket-X and TB2 chassis, along with your new Mac Pro Trashcan you'll probably get around 30-40 fps.

If you don't have a MBPR and TB2 Chassis, you'll be better off with a Mac Pro Trashcan. I would get a MBPR before getting the Quad core Mac Pro, but the Six Core Tower is worth the extra $ for the increased performance, if that's what you need instead of versatility.

If you can afford, go with the 8-core!

i would say get the Macpro if you gonna upgrade to Dragon. There is no way old RR will transcode Dragon files so its gonna be useless.i have late 13' rMBP and desperately need RedrocketX for Dragon transcoding and its at least few months wait.Somebody tested Macpro vs RRX almost same performance.

Kemalettin... The current firmware for the RRX does not allow it to run at full speed/(all cores?).

RRX will be a lot faster than realtime. That is pretty much the point of it.

Keep in mind you can get a 12 Core Xeon on an X79 and install a RRX card.

for epic footage right now the best way is to go with the "old" rocket in external enclosure...you will get pretty much full quality/full speed via TB on any recent mac, incl macbook air....rocket+ enclosure should be between 2500-3000 right now (although rocket prices are going down) and will play 4k/5k raw files faster then 8000 macpro....
yes, the new rocketX isn't out of beta yet and also costs 6500 + box but will still play 4,5 and 6K footage faster then any mac pro, even if you are only using half the board...

I just sold my rocket and enclosure for $2400. Best deal if you are not moving to Dragon yet.
