There's quite a jump in price between the used Nikkor 85mm 1.8's and the rarer, faster 1.4's. Any opinions on whether it's worth spending the extra on a 1.4 for use with Red?

The 1.8 is a GREAT lens! The only way you'd be dissapointed is if you tried the 1.4 :)
Evin,
Is there much difference between the AF and manual versions of the 85mm 1.4? I have been leaning towards manual lenses for my kit.
Also the manual 85mm f2 seems to get very mixed reviews. Any opinion on that one?
Thanks again!
Avoid the 85mm f2, it's not in the same leauge. The AIS and AF versions of the 1.4 are the same optically except the AF is a rear focusing lens, so the lens does not get longer when you focus. This may mean it breathes lesss but I haven't tested it yet. I own the AIS manual focus version.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I look forward to a review of the 85mm 1.4, but all in good time :)
Bargains at KEH are really just that. I've never had an issue with a BGN from KEH I actually look for them. They are always in better condition than you expect.
