    Hello Red Team,

Im realy happy to see the news about the Scarlet camera. I live in Europe and Im not blessed to visit the NAB thats why I post my questions here.
If anyone else knows an answer please feel free to answer :)

Will there be any sample footage made by the red team with the scarlet camera to show the quality / posibilities of the camera ? Im about to pre order "ïf possible" a scarlet or buy a Sony EX 1 right now but the problem is that I have no idea what the scarlet camera is capable of and how it will look if I will work with it. 2009 is ok I can wait but I would like to know what I can expect. I dont want tofind out afterwards, specifications are good and the 3d animation looks great but it's about the final result. Can we see any test footage anywhere ? The Ex 1 is nice and has a lot of sample video's on for example vimeo but if it can be more profesional I would like to see what the scarlet is capable of and I will wait with my purchase of the ex1. We can not expect the quality from a Red One thats why Im realy interessted to see what we CAN expect..

Does the camera need a lens that will cost more than the camera itself to reach the impressive look ? The camera isnt expensive but a lens for the red one cost about 8500. What is the vision for the scarlet camera ? What would be a good configuration ? I hoped for a complete package but it looks like I have to buy an expensive lens anyway or work with an alternative from nikon / zeis and that is not why I would buy a product from Red.

How does the Scarlet Camera compare to a Sony EX 1 ? Is it a EX 1 killer ? It does not matter if it's meant to be or that is 3K but I realy would like to know if it is better and if it will look better. :)

I realy like the design of the camera and the specs look good (where is the audio ?) but everything togheter next to a Ex 1 or a hvx200.. What can you say what will convince me that this camera shoots a more professional film look than another HD camera ? They say a picture says more then 1000 words, I realy hope to see test footage from the scarlet. Don't understand me wrong.. Im totaly exited about it.. But at the same time I feel very unsure about it. I simply have no idea what I will buy I only see a cool picture of the camera.

Is it realy neccesary to use a 35 mm adapter to get more dof or reduce any noise ? For example a Red one doesnt need one to reach the impressive results and I dont think their goal is to design a camera what needs extensions from other brands ? I tought red wants to be the best and deliver a complete product ? I saw a few posts on this forum about an adapter but is this the vision of red as well ? Will the camera not directly shoot the quality an independent film maker would like to have ?

Im realy exited to see the new camera's and I hope to learn more about it soon.

    Thanks a lot..

    Matthew

...and to that I would add; what's it's actual size?
    ...you are your own codec...

There's a built-in lens, so you don't have to worry about buying a fancy new piece of glass. I think at the roughly $3k price point customers are pretty unforgiving about hearing their camera's price has to double once you add inessential accessories like a lens.

I don't know if you have to buy batteries and the like separately like you do a RED ONE. We'll have to wait and see for that.

well It still would be nice to see some test results of the "amazing" scarlet :) so we know what we are talking about.. I know its a prototype but It would be a major dissapointment if the camera is not what we all hope for.

I just think like this.. A red one cost 17500 camera body only... A scarlet cost below 3000 usd inclusive lcd screen ? and lens ? I have reason "enough" to have my toughts about it. Why wait till 2009 if they can show us what we are dealing with ? I think we expect too much from it at this point.. It's 3k but will the final "film look" be more impressive then a ex1 / hvx with a 35mm adapter ? Don't be that sure about it..

Ofcourse red have to do nothing.. they are smart.. they make great camera's but they have complete attention to the independent film industry and they let us wait till 2009 without any idea what quality we are talking about. with 3k only we are not there yet u see.

I don't think they actually have a working Scarlet there so it's probably not likely that we'll see any test footage any time soon, but then again, I don't work for RED so my guess is as good as anyone elses...

    but yeah

    fixed lens
there will be 2 audio channels

guys, I understand how exciting this can all be....

but you joined in the last two days and you're asking questions that are all over these boards. The answers are freely available. Also, please remember that most of the RED team is at the booths at NAB.

Hang back a bit, read the posts, follow the threads, and if you really don't see an answer, cool, ask a question.

I read this board almost every day for a year before I started posting.

    Ease into it.

    -You can't pre-order Scarlet yet.
-It won't be out until 2009.
-it has a fixed lens, and a 2/3" sensor.
-Right now it's just a prototype, but if you've seen RED ONE footage or played with any on REDCINE, you'll know it's awesome.
-it shoots RAW, like a high end digital still camera.
-it will be great for indie filmmakers that can't afford a RED ONE with accessories.
