Team RED,
I just got home after a long day of work, and saw this incredible explosion of news from NAB. Epic looks amazing, REDRAY is promising as heck, and the news that the RED ONE will still be upgradeable with a new sensor is phenomenal (Nervous Nellies... heheheh)
But Scarlet? Oh, MAN! She's gorgeous!!! So petite, yet spunky! 2/3" sensor is the perfect balance of ease of focus vs shallow depth of field. 3K resolution is just right, and will make excellent downrezzed 2K film transfers and 1080p Blu-Rays, plus having 120fps on board is liquid gold, covered in chocolate, and wrapped in bacon!
And the price!!! $3000? That's it?!?!?!?!? For something that will arguably capture better footage than a Sony F950... Unreal. You people are nuts! I want one right now.
Don't sweat the whiners complaining about Scarlet not having this or that. A Nikon mount? Please... What Nikon lens is going to be wide enough to be used on a 2/3" sensor? It'd have to be, like, 6mm focal length, and that just doesn't exist. If people want to change lenses, they should get the RED ONE. But you know that already. This camera is perfect for folks moving up from a DVX or HV20. Superb image quality and pro features for a ridiculously low price (I paid $3400 for my DVX when it came out, and Scarlet spanks it all the way to Mars.)
So, just wanted to say a quick congratulations to you all. You have exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to get my hands all over Scarlet. My wife is officially jealous! ;)
Have fun at NAB!
