1294 arrived in Boston today. Following are a few pics of the unboxing and set-up as a 2K documentary camera. I'll be using it mostly in this configuration except for some commercial work. It's set up as a 15mm rig using ET rails and top and Arri15mm baseplate and ET dovetail. The glass is a Fujinon 13X4.5 HD broadcast zoom lens. Even in this config it's pretty heavy. I threw it on my shoulder though and it is manageable, though does need a shoulder pad solution. When handheld I'll lose the FF and bottom rails.

I looked at many handheld setups at NAB and saw none that worked for me. I'll try to work on my own solution. The one thing that I did see at NAB (and have used before) that I think will work great for doc is an Easyrig. If anyone is interested in that solution, I talked at length with the Easyrig folks and they are interested in doing a Red groupbuy. Let me know!

That is the product. One of the issues is the varying weights we all may be looking for it to handle. If you are running very light, 20 to 30 pounds, you'll need a different model than if you're dealing with 30 to 50 pounds. The light rig won't work well on the heavy duty Easyrig and vice versa. I think I'm looking at the heavier rig...at least 30 pounds. If there is a lot of interest then they'll discuss prices...but they are definitely interested in doing something for the Reduser group.

As dorky as they are easy rigs rock. A solid investment in your back. Its basically $5000 you wont have to give your chiropractor.

How do you like the Sachtler 20 for that load? does the tripod handle the back to frint weight shift well?

The Sachtler 20 handles the weight very well. The combination of the heads top plate being able to slide as well as sliding the camera on the Arri dovetail plate allows a great degree of adjustment to get the weight centered perfectly. It actually works better than when I have my betacam mounted on it. Here's some more pics I took today.
