  1. #1 I can't open Red Dragon files in Vegas 12 or 13
When I try to import Red Dragon media files (5K widescreen resolution), I get a message saying 'Warning: an error occurred while opening one or more files. The reason for the error could not be determined'.

I have had no issues importing Red *Epic* R3D before, and I need to deliver an edit by Monday.

    Please help/advise.

I was under the impression that Vegas 12 was cool with Red Dragon media.

    Vegas 12 build 770.

I spent 200 upgrading to Vegas 13 and the same is happening.

I'm guessing Sony didn't upgrade the RED SDK in their software to support it. You might need to consider an alternate editorial platform or do an offline/online workflow until they include the support.

The Sony Vegas website says that it supports R3D, and I have edited epic footage on vegas many times.

I have also read another forum post in which someone states that they were able to import 6k dragon successfully.

Dragon requires a newer SDK. Updated R3D. At a minimum they need the 2/14/14 SDK that added new OLPF support. Later SDK added GPU debayer.

    From Sony:

    Hi William,

    Thank you for writing back.

I have spoken to our QA team about this, but unfortunately, it appears that Vegas Pro 13 does not support footage from the RED Epic Dragon camera at this time, although it does support R3D footage from other cameras, such as the RED One or the RED Epic.

Does Sony Vegas 13 support Dragon r3d's yet?

Or is the issue with 6K and 5K Dragon files only?

    Thank you !

    It's transcode time.
Either that or download a 30 day trial version of Adobe Creative Suite.
