What I'm reading is Group Buys need to fit these criteria:

    - Publicly posted "Clear Details and What You're Offering"
    - Publicly posted "Goal Number"
    - Publicly posted "Price Per Goal Tier"

Basically allowing for only actual Group Buys and not a discount. Reduser is paid for by Red and various Reduser sponsors. There have been many Group Buys, Discounts, and Deals over the years that sometimes majorly conflict with paid sponsors products as well as Red's own products. Also, there are some Group Buys that just end badly.

I'll add a personal note here. Group Buys are tricky things and it's exciting to take a look at new and upcoming products. There have been a couple Group Buys in the past (or recent history) that exploded into chaos due to a variety of reasons, but often times the inability of the manufacturer to deliver product. Be thoughtful and cautious if organizing such a thing. You don't want to deal with the negative impact of something like this going wrong as it's a time consuming endeavor that could negatively effect your own business.

    What Phil said.

Running Group Buys can be tricky and very time intensive. Laying out the particulars is very important, of which the preeminent one is choosing/agreeing to run the GB, with a given purveyor. Having said that, the individual, who initiates the GB may post denial or deflection of responsibility, but if the lawyers get involved...as Phil alludes to. Can be handy to have three kids, who are attorneys and a really good umbrella policy...

    Thank you very much

Just to add to what Phil said.

Maybe be don't confuse group buys with kickstarter.
They should be done in the spirit of helping this community.

    follow the rules.

Correct. There are alot of group buys that have blown up recently and the ones that seem to go south the quickest and the worst is the ones that individuals create not for the benefit of the community but for some self-rewarding deal that they have made with the manufacture at the expense of the best interest of the members.

And then there are some manufactures that want to get around the advertising policy by getting a mole member to post some sort of token discount as a group buy. Those are the ones that piss me off the most :)

Group Buys are awesome for everyone if they are done with the right intentions.

Business is always made with the same intention : making money.
I don't see the "charity spirit" in a group buy.

While that is certainly true on the surface, I think business can be, and sometimes is, looked at as a collaboration between buyer and seller. That is the ideal situation because without one, the other can't exist. And good relations between buyer and seller mean that future transactions are likely. It is almost always cheaper to sell to existing customers than it is to acquire new ones. Good business is built on trust. And, alternatively, when trust is lost, things can get ugly quickly, as we have seen recently here on RU.

So what is the feeling on a manufacturer posting "If we can get 100 Redusers to place an order, those 100 will get an x% discount" ?

Manufacturers, companies, and distributors of products must be Reduser Sponsors to advertise on the site.
