After shooting with Nikkors and the Redrock M2 adapter for some time now I've become quite familiar with how to pull focus accurately, atleast my AC's have.

One of the main complaints amongst them has been the fact that 35 adapters render the Nikkors barrel distance scale useless.

We've all seen the still posted with from Red fitted with a Nikkor 50mm prime...

Edge to edge sharpness, great image quality, even with the old boy Franky.

So finally, my question is......Will the barrel distance scales match up when using the Nikon mount on Red? Did the 50mm used on Franky have accurate barrel measurements?

To be honest, with the throw distance and pretty-much-useless marking scale of SLR lenses, I can't really see any AC worth his or her salt giving a shit if they're accurate or not - you'll need a marked FF wheel to get any useful information from an SLR lens.

Also, an AC will usually re-mark a lens before the shoot anyway, based on real world measurements, cine lenses or no.

    That's right.

Agreed, marking the focus wheel is a known whether or not your barrel markings are on or off anyways.

Well so far on my tests with the D2x every Nikkor I've tried (Once it's had a CLA) has focused spot on for distance. If the Nikon mount is made correctly then it sould also be right on. However a few of my Nikkors couldn't focus all the way to infinity on the D2x until after an adjustment. I would plan on a $125 CLA for all used Nikkors purchased, it's just a good idea if you don't know the history.

Evin, I think you misunderstood my question...

I was asking whether or not the 50mm Nikkor the Red Team used on Franky had accurate barrel markings when mounted to Franky.

Your right, I didn't understand. And I don't know that.

My experience shooting with an adapter are the same, the barrel markings don't match up. At first this concerned me but I quickly realized it was irrelevant. It would be nice if they match on red but I suspect they won't and it really doesn't matter.
