  1. #1 What Camcorder before getting Scarlet
    Looking for small camcorder recommendations.

So - I will be getting a scarlet. However... until that time I want a camera to shoot little simple things, mostly personal.

At one point the HV20 was the obvious choice, but then when I heard abut scarlet, I wasn't sure I wanted to spend a grande that would be obsolete so quickly.

So I'm looking for recommendations on HV20 range and new competitors of them... AND/OR cameras like the flip or Aiptek A-HD. So from super cheap to moderate consumer.... The number of cameras in that scale are suprisingly large. This is a camera I will just grab and bring with me for a variety of purposes. For professional work, I have my RED of course. Thoughts? Emphatic warnings or recommendations?

    Thanks.

I think you already mentioned the best option out there.

I would always choose the cine-like Canon vs. the videoish Sony but maybe that's just me.

A friend bought the Canon xl-h1 it seems to put out a pretty good image for a home camcorder. And you can change the lens on it.

I called my friend up and it's the xl-h1 he got not whatever that other number was I wrote down. Besides being able to mount different lenses on it there are a couple of other neat functions. You can sync it to other cameras and it has SMPTE timecode. One function that I thought was sharp is the built in tone oscilator for setting audio levels. Can't remember if it was -10 or 0 or +4dbv

I love my HV20 when its paired with a Red Rock adapter...without a little weight its way to light for me to use hand held, but I shake so its a specific issue with me.

Erm, the XL-H1 costs more than Scarlet will. I say go for the HV20, you can get them for ~$650 these days.
