  1. #1 Nikon - PL Adapter
So will a Nikon adapter be ready to ship with the earliest shipments of Red One? Any idea on price?
If it's not difficult, why do it?

It won't be a PL-Nikon adapter, it will be a Nikon mount for Red.
It will ship with the camera AFAIK. No word of price but I expect $300-$500.

$300-$500??? It's a small, solid piece of metal, why wouldn't it just be included with the base? It seems someone could do the measurements and machine them up for under $50 and sell for a cool profit at $99.

    Get a clue.

I think I paid $75 each for my Nikon and Canon EOS mounts for my RedRock M2 cine adapter (they are now $90), they sell the PL mount for $450, not sure why its THAT much more. I would assume that with an order of sufficent quantity the price for the Nikon and Canon mounts for the RedOne should be close to the $100 mark Shawn suggests and still a good deal at twice that.

Perhaps those of us with reservations who are going to want the still lens mounts should be polled by Red so they can get a count in advance? It should allow them to negotiate the best price and avoid supply issues. Unless they are more expensive than we are guessing put me down for a Nikon for sure, I only have EOS Canon lenses so unless they support the pin outs I probably wouldn't order a Canon mount, shooting wide open all the time only works if that is the look you wanted anyway.

A couple monthes back someone posted a link on DVXuser Red forum for a custom mount that matches the Canon EOS pin outs and gives you access to some of the functionality. Don't know if it would work with the RedOne or not. I would be stoked to just a have a simple hack that allowed me to set the iris easily.

I'd love to be wrong about that guess, but I wasn't sure the demand would be high enough to drive the price down. I'll revise to $150-$300 that sounds more reasonable.

I had a rough guess at $200 myself, so I think that guess is better Evin, but only by my back-of-an-envelope estimate...

Chuck, whilst I appreciate your point, that's a bit harsh man - you're obviously a very knowledgeable guy on these issues, but you can't expect everybody else here to be! Not trying to harsh you out or anything, just figured I'd stick up for the guy! :)

    Dominic, your right.
    Shawn, I appologise. (spelling?)

It's not just the lens mounting ring, (which in it's self is a complex part) but the whole assembly which holds it to the camera proper. These pieces have to be very accuretly machined. Anyhow it adds up to a lot of machine shop hours. Hopefully with the advent of CNC machiening the price will be reduced.
Once again, I'm sorry for my abrut words.

    Hey Chuck,

Obviously I can't speak on Shawn's behalf, but I think that's really cool of you - nice one!

I had my head down half-expecting a flaming there... :)

Thanks Chuck, I had been resisting the urge to post back an Irishman's response :-)
