HMI window / flicker?

I wasn't sure which discussion topic to place this under, but "General" seems as good as any.

I have not seen any discussion (searching on "HMI Window" and "HMI") of Red in terms of HMI windows or flicker or the like. Between the physical shutter and the rolling shutter I assume that there is going to be some issue with flicker. We're still waiting on our Red so I can't test personally, but what do we need to know about shooting with HMIs?

Thanks. That thread was not very definitive, but I'm sure we'll see some information as the Red gains more use. This may also be affected by the progressive builds, I expect. Hopefully there'll be something like the HMI Window card that ACs carry around for film cameras.

I would imagine most of the same frame rate/shutter speed combos that are applicable for film are correct for Red as well.

I have seen occasional flicker with other cameras running 23.98 and had to dial my 1/48 sec. shuuter speed to 1/60 sec. although this was more often with KinoFlos.

I still have a Cinematography Electronics FR/SS table in my kit plus I believe my ASC Manual has a table in it as well.

Because of the 1/10 of 1% difference in the Film and Video time bases (ie: 24fps vs. 23.98fps - actually 23.976_) you may still have to adjust the shutter speed slightly.
