  1. #1 RedConnector.com: Red Owners / Rentals Database
So in the spirit of RedRelay (footage) and RedHax (technical info), there now exists a global database for Red owners to create a profile listing their gear, location, etc. - including a gallery of their shot-on-Red images. Producers/clients can search this database, in order to find owners/shooters in their area, without having to crawl the forums post by post. Plus, it's a splashy way to look at cool images. The site is here:

    www.redconnector.com

It should also be mentioned that there are other great production-oriented sites out there, such as Mandy, Ed Watkins' RevolutionRentals, etc. RedConnector.com is, however, specific to Red and to this community.

This is a repeat post, for the purpose of making it sticky. It should also be mentioned that there are other great production-oriented sites out there, such as Ed Watkins' RevolutionRentals, Mandy, etc. (RedConnector.com is, however, specific to Red and to this community.)

Please use this thread to request features, etc. I can't promise I'll be spending all my time coding for the good of (Red-owning) humanity, since this is a freebie - but I am interested in making it a good resource for people.
    Nice work Mitch!!

    Thanks, nice job.

I would suggest not requiring creating an account to search for users. You are going to lose alot of potential clients looking for cameras who dont want to create an account just to search for a camera.

Great Mitch, just joined, love this new site.

Was going creasy to find a DP/RED Owner for a Upcoming shoot (did find and hired Blair) but this site once we are all in, it will make it easy and painless, to provide each other and others, services.

    Thanks again.

    ciao

Thanks for the feedback. Right now, you actually can access the Search page without being logged in, but can't read profiles. When I get some time I'll try to figure out how to change that.

Note, however, that a Producer account only requires 3 bits of information - it's not the big deal that a Red Owner account is. I probably won't go completely registration-free for contacting members, though. The problems are: 1) it opens the door to spambots, which can become a significant issue, and 2) I'd like to know who's using the site, to discourage scammers... it's a small barrier, but asking for a real name and production company is analogous to shutting the front door when you leave the house.

In other news: I've actually gotten a couple of messages from people looking to hire already, off of the sample profile I posted. (Which I've taken down, since it was a sample - I won't even receive my camera for a few more weeks!)

Oh - and I'm also planning to add a "search by geographical radius" function. Another item that I have to figure out how to code.

Just an update: RedConnector has passed the 100-member mark! (124, as of this writing.) Also, lots of great new images up on the front page, and in the user galleries. Keep 'em coming, everyone. And, I've had a few reports of people starting to get work through the site - which ain't half bad.

So as a final (I hope - all this website stuff can be sort of exhausting) effort to promote the site to producers, I've decided to donate a few weeks' worth of future rental time toward two lucky projects. Hence:

    Code:
    The RedConnector Filmmaker Competition
    www.redconnector.com/competition/home
One short and one feature will win a free camera package rental.

And yes, there's an entry fee. Basically, this is because Withoutabox.com charges an arm and a leg, and I'll be submitting the competition to them. All the rest goes toward bandwidth fees for the site. Trust me, I'm not snorting the cash up my nose. That said, there's a $5 discount for RedUsers with the code "RFC_REDUSER".

No, but seriously... If I understand your question correctly, the answer is that it seemed like there ought to be such a site for the community, so I designed one. I sort of wanted to learn more about web design anyway. But it's not a money-making endeavor, it's just to help people find gigs & to promote the use of the Red.

If he gets enough visitors monthly he could get an ad from amazon.com and make 15 grand a month.
