Assuming the Pancro hot mirror...
Does using a .9 IRND have the same amount of IR cut as a 1.5 IRND, or is it progressive?
So if I used a .9 IRND with a .6 ND stacked, would that let in a bunch of IR whereas the straight up 1.5IRND would cut that?
Trying to save a buck here.
Tom from Pancro told me that each one of his filters cuts more IR -- it has too because the higher the ND the more IR you will get. I bought a .9 and a 1.5 plus the Rosco Trucolor for the .3 and .6 ND IR situations.
You cannot stack his ND+IR filters but you can stack other ND and Pola with his in front.
Could you possibly do some more outdoor tests without a polarizer?
The colors look a bit odd to me, and I'd like to see them without the polarization adding a very strong character to the images.
How about something like a man in a black tuxedo and a woman in white standing next to one another in broad daylight?
Thanks again.
The Macbeth chart is a standard color reference. So, since you know what those colors should look like, you can color-correct out any effect of the polarizer (since that is the same in each shot) leaving you with just the ND filter effects.
The Pola. had much less color shift than the NDs (Except the Pancros).
nice work! thanks to all who helped.
What about a Tiffen Hot Mirror with some regular old ND filters behind it (closer to the lens)? Any problem with this? That's what the Hot Mirror is made for right? This thing with each Pancro IRND cutting more IR than the last is now confusing me, I was all set to get the Tiffen Hot Mirror while I wait for my Pancros to ship, but am a bit confused now..
Is everyone just keeping their Rosco (the fragile butterfly) permanently in it's own filter tray? If it's between a Rosco and a Tiffen and you aren't considering how durable the actual filter is, does the Rosco win?
