Ah !! So what are we talking about when we talk about importing "look" into the camera ? Where do we design the look... In camera ? Redalert ? Redcine?

Please forgive me if I'm repeating something you already understand, but...

Looks importing is only affects monitoring on the Red; it will have absolutely no effect on the raw data. No in camera lookup settings affect the raw data - that is the beauty of this workflow.

That said, of course it'd be great to have the lookups in camera as they might make lighting and exposure a little more efficient. My prediction is the primary benefit will be psychological - video village junkies (directors, producers, execs, etc...) will feel more connected to the final image, perhaps gaining confidence in the overall process.

But all those things that a look file would directly affect in other cameras happens after the data leaves the camera - you're absolutely right: RedCine, RedAlert, Scratch, and eventually many other tools once the SDK is released.

    cheers,

    Thanks John...

I guess we are in the same frequency... but yeah it would be great to have the "NEAR" final look right infront on your monitor as you shoot.

Looking forward to all the excitement RED has to offer.

    Cheers.

hell yeah. you WILL have near final look on the monitor if you want it. the beauty is that it isn't getting burned in, and you could change it later if you like.
