    How likely is it that the composite legs will shatter? Is it better to go with aluminum legs?

    Carbon legs are extensively used in ENG, where they get battered around quite a bit. So, if you can afford them, go for Carbon legs, they'll save your back. Literally :)

    Never seen it happen.

    You might be able to do if you try and clamp something to them and overtighten and crush the legs, like a magic arm.
