Proxies Problem... Again...

Hi

trying to run the _M proxy of 4k 2:1 footage and getting a jitter shot (slow motion style)

i've got my sequence setting set to Redcode compressor.

using a Buffalo Esata drive.

any idea? my render bar is orange, and i've got my RT setting set to Ulimited and video playback to dynamic.

Render self-contained Quicktimes out of RedCine or Compressor ... leave the "proxy" QT Reference files for just a quick view on the set or after the shoot. Edit with the self-contained QTs .... for anything but the simplest of edits you will thank yourself in the end.

OK... I will compress it to prores using compressor.

but what are the setting that i should use for best worklow in the future and best preformence?

can i do the compression inside final cut? or i must use compressor?

just a reminder, shooting 4k 2:1. 24 fps. (finishing on FCP, Redcine, Crimson, and Gluetools)

Well I think it depends on how you finish. What we do is render QTs from Compressor because you can do a reliable batch (I say reliable as RedCine usually always crashes when put on overnight) of footage, edit in FCP and use Crimson to pulls DPXs.

the finishing is 4k dpx. the workflow will be:

- offline on FCP.
- Export XML
- Import XML to Crimson to generate a Redcine XML
- import XML to Redcine and export DPX direct to the lab or into "Color".

i'm not very fimiliar with compressor so if you can be as detiled as you can.

You might be okay to not touch ReDCine as you can export DPXs from Crimson via the Redline utility which Crimson can use to pull DPXs and Quicktimes.

Compressor is the compression application that installs with FCP. The basic workflow is drag in your clips, apply a preset (ProRes 422 is fine for RED offline work, in fact it's a bit overkill but it looks nice) and render. The Compressor manual is very detailed in how to use the app... a bit too much to explain in a forum post.
