For those who know who makes sensors and how those places make them, it is not that tough to figure out who did does it for RED. I don't blame them for not wanting to tell, as frankly it is no one's business. I know where other camera's sensors are made. Who cares? These are companies that likely no one has ever heard of, yet they are the tops in their fields. RED gets its sensors from an excellent fabricator, and I'm sure that no one else has the RED design.

It's a factory in Asia that specializes in CMOS sensors. They make them for RED to RED's specs. Probably make them for Nikon or Canon, or both. Probably a name you would not recognize. Why does this matter?

I really don't understand this repeated questioning about who makes the sensor for Red. It seems pointless for the following reasons:

    1. The design belongs to Red, so you can only buy one from Red.
    2. If you are planning to design your own sensor, you should be knowledgeable enough to know where to have them made.
    3. Even if you somehow got one from the foundry, how would you do the rest of the processing necessary to use it in a camera. (The additional packaging, that's most likely required.)
    4. Once you've packaged it, are you then going to design the rest of the circuitry, circuit boards and write all the software to package the whole thing into your own camera?
    5. If you want one for your Red, because the one you have was damaged, it clearly will be much easier and cheaper to get it replaced by Red.
    6. Having designed both the hardware and software for image processing, I can suggest that it's a rather time consuming task, and if one already owns a Red, it might be a better use of one's time to use the camera to accomplish the task for which it was purchased.

I'm not trying to be mean or ugly, curiosity is a natural thing, but sometimes not very productive.

I think that finding who makes the Mysterium should be the plot for Indiana Jones V. Spielberg directing a movie about a washed up old guy searching for a kick arse digital sensor should make for some great laughs.

Actually I don't blame Spielberg for Indy IV, but rather Lucas... damn you George Lucas, damn you to hell. Stop ruining my childhood memories & stop relying on CGI so freakin much. Remember little things like plot & tension?

Wait... sorry to get off track... think I blacked out for a second there...
