  1. #1 S16mm Lenses
From what I gather S16 will cover 2K correct? Is there any MAJOR disadvantages to shooting 2K is anyone else considering using S16
    lenses and shooting 2K?

The only one I can see is that you get a reduced field of the sensor, thus reduced DOF (as opposed to scaling down from the fulll sensor and getting 35mm dof in a 2k frame). Otherwise, as great option.

    Hi,

I think you mean increased DOF.

Ha ha. Oops, yeah. The narrowness of the DOF would be reduced.

Or, to use Mr. Williams' quaint terminology, "increased".

I'm certainly planning to shoot a lot of 2K, if my Zeiss, Optex converted, 12-120mm T2.4 zoom gives good results. I do a lot of documentary, in this case the increased DOF is an advantage as is the increased recording time per Red Drive. We shall see as soon as I get my Red One and can shoot some tests.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

On the assumption that 1/3 inch sensors have more DOF than 35mm sized ones, I find your comment very amusing.

Just goofing around Stephen. Poking fun at myself--I was speaking backwards.

    Hmmm,

Given the assumed and promised capabilities of RED one and Redcine plus the SLR lens capabilities it just doesn't make sense to shoot 2K if your end product has shelf life?

If it is a indie film for digital and 35mm film out or straight to DVD rent the super 16 lenses if you are convinced 2K acquisition is the way to go. From what I am hearing, future proofing in 4K is a slam dunk success formula for the big picture since redcine will enable 2K editing and finishing on today's hardware and your archived originals are 4K for the future.

well, 2k is great for finishing format.... more likely of you print to 35mm or higher...

now for the best lens will be the 8-64 canon pl mount.... what a beauty of glass,
that or a set of Super zeiss MKIII but those I quiet expensive hehehe

    all true shark guy

but the ease of use of the 2K option for run'n'gun type shooting is strong
    - light weight S16 lenses with wide range of zoom
    - ease of focusing
    - huge record time shooting 2K Redcode vs 4K
