I just got an 8-core MacPro to handle RED. I was planning on selling my dual 2.3 G5, but now I wonder if I can use it to speed up render times.

    1) Will this work since it is a non-Intel Mac?

    2) I've never had 2 systems share processing, Is it complicated to set up?

Hi Jim, nice to see yet another Colorado REDhead on here. Looking at your site, it seems Ken finally started putting his RED to use! :)

As for the G5, It won't help because it's not an Intel Mac... I've still got a G5 quad to unload myself.

As for setting up two systems to share processing, in theory it's not hard. However, we're currently restricted by software in terms of RED workflow. If you have more than one Intel Mac available, you can use REDLINE as your render-node software and distribute processing across multiple systems with various render management tools.

    Thanks Jeff.

Yeah Ken has been shooting like mad ever since he got his Cooke. He keeps telling me to call you to ask you a bunch of questions, but I don't know enough to ask much yet.

    Thanks again,

    Jim
