Yep, for noga arm/RED arm folks that would be nice. Likely could remove the 4 not centered 1/4"-20 below the 3/8"-16 and replace it with one centered 1/4"-20.

I guess I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between this and the old 7" red touch, as well as the dsmc2 7" red touch, other than its ability to fold, and attach without an extra arm.

There are people who have their displays on Noga Arms/RED Arms or whatever all day. Having a hung adds additional bulk and perhaps not the perfect rigging placement for some. For others they'll want the flexibility of being able to rig onto the camera.

RED is providing options for all sorts of rigging preferences here.

I'm a cable-less man myself lately.

You can get size reducer bushings for less than a dollar each and then you never have to worry about messing up the threads in your $3000 monitor.
