  1. #1 Bags for RED
O.k I'm sure there have been countless threads on this, but I couldn't find any real answers.

Is there a production bag that fits the RED with the cradle, LCD/EVF, basic production pack, attached? I'm looking for something similar to a Kata Banana or Portabrace.

I have a tamarac backpack for taking it on the plane, but now I'm looking for something to take into the field that I can hike with, that doesn't require me to break the RED down the whole time.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Hi Ed,

Just this week we ordered and received our new RED "run and gun" bag, the Petrol PDRB-6 Dr. Petrol Bag

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...etrol_Bag.html

We wanted a bag in which we could carry and protect our assembled RED cam for local shoots with an attached 25-250 Angenieux lens (our longest lens), 18" rods (top and bottom), mattebox, EVF, 7" LCD, shotgun mic, RED handle, drive and battery.

So far, the Dr. Petrol bag seems to do the job well (however we do need to remove the MB from the rods during transport because it is just a bit too wide to easily slip in to the bag while still on the rods, but it can be stored in the bag, alongside the camera and it's a quick re-attachment at our next location. Everything else like the EVF and LCD can remain attached but folded along the cam on Noga arms). There also is room alongside the cam or in the side storage pockets for an additional battery, drive, MB French flag, and lens cleaning supplies--including a can of compressed air. If needed, we could also store another prime lens (wrapped in padding) in the main compartment with the cam as well.

This is not a bag for air travel--it's too big for carry-on and too insecure for checking, but it's perfect for traveling in a vehicle locally to and from shoots with a fully assembled RED, plus a few key accessories. It has great carrying handles and shoulder strap although, once it's loaded up, our bag approaches forty pounds so it's pretty bulky to haul over long distances.

We also considered bags from Kata and Porta-Brace, but decided the Dr. Petrol offered the best size, protection and convenience at the best price.

Hope this helps, best of luck with your purchase and good shooting!

Harky, could you give us quick review of the Kata bag - I'd be interested to hear about how it can handle a fully-configured Red.

    Thanks,

    Nick.

it has room for the red with the 18 to 50 attached and everything but mattebox and can fold to travel if you condense thngs.

    Hello,

I actually looked at both the bags mentioned that were from B&H. I couldn't decide! I might just take my camera up there and see what fits well for me. It was also a case where I was trying to find one that I can carry on. Checking the RED is certainly not a great option.

Think I'll go up tomorrow and have another look.

    Best,

    ATF
