RED 8K S35

This is a very exciting development and it will be very interesting to see how it all materializes.

And to comment on what some are saying...I don't think the R&D that RED is doing is going to slow down the current production lines on existing models. R&D is a small part of a company... it just seems really big because it keeps making the headlines when Jarred let's us peak in the garage to see what their working on! (Which is really big, ha ha)

As much as I want the VV 8K Weapon to land in my hands soon, I'd almost rather have this instead... Just for the consideration of lenses...

Jeff - the real question here is about which "existing cinema" lenses will actually resolve 8K at S35. Most have problems with 4K as it is. So you may still need to get "new" lenses after all in order to get the best out of this. This to me almost looks like a great opportunity for RED to start making lenses again...

Wonder what the resolution on a larger cut of the sensor would be like?

If my math is wrong-which it more then likely will be about: VV would be 13,107x6912 and the sensor size of the 6k CF/Magnesium is 10,977x5789

I think that would be closer to 11-12K for VV, being Dragon is 5K for Super35 and 8K for VV

Possibly non-square pixels to make the most of anamorphic squeeze (to get 8K horizontal) while still having large enough pixel area (vertically) to retain at least some ISO 1280 performance.

Maybe, but it depends on how Red defines "Super-35" because they have been prone to calling sizes larger than 24mm-wide with that name.
