For what it is worth, I just downloaded the latest version of FCPX 10.3 and it now imports and plays RED 8K Helium files from my Epic-W. I was able to do this on my stinking old early 2011 MacBook Pro!!!

Does it FCPX 10.3 allow you to choose the "performance playback" resolution? I'd love to be able to select 1/4, 1/8, etc... with a full res "paused" resolution.

its less complicated than that, you can choose from original/optimized better playback, original/optimized better qualilty, proxy

I just transcode to proxy right in fcpx and choose proxy, when I am done editing I choose better playback for grading and fine tweaks better quality. Literally takes 2 seconds in the drop down, just like RCX

Sitting here working on a project in FCPX (10.2.3) and the one thing bugging me about the proxy workflow within FCPX is that it forces you to delete the proxies if you want to go back and tweak the R3D RAW settings. I can't find a good reason for why they are doing that. Obviously anything you tweak won't be reflected in the baked in proxy file, in which case if you need the new look in the proxy then you would re-transcode. But sometimes I want to play with color in RAW and then go back to editing with proxies and don't need to see the color updated at that point. So, this is a bit of a drag. Have they fixed that in 10.3?

Also, finding that Izotope plugin Rack crashes FCPX quite a bit and also having some crashes related to Color Finale Pro.

But, I have grown to really like a lot of things about FCPX, and eventually will update the big thread I had going.

yes you do need to re transcode, which is a pain, I removed all my izo plugs long ago, I forget why

Is there a new RED workflow installer that needs to be installed? Or the old one works?

(I see that the last date on the RED site is 10/11/16 - which I definitely don't have yet.)

Also - my App Store app says I have 7 apps needing to be updated but they aren't showing up. Anyone else having this issue?)

    Thanks.

As I'm just learning to edit my own stuff, I'm genuinely curious as to the main pro and cons of FCP vs Premiere vs Resolve (if it can be considered a contender). I own both and Resolve is free.

Do you have 3 bullet points of what you REALLY like about FCPX Steve?
