  1. #1 Wifi Follow focus - does it exist?
    Hello
I am sure that this is a very naive question. I have a PL Mounted epic mx with some old zeisses and I was wondering if there was a way to drive a follow focus motor from the autofocus menu in the camera? Even better, drive the focus system via foolcontrol system.
    Any ideas are most welcome.
    Thanks

Your best option is an RT motion Latitude.

Latitude is a smart hub motor driver box, it can run one to 3 lens motors.

you can drive it from fool Control, and if you want to expand it with a physical handset , you can get the NK3.1 handset which just plain rocks.

It can interface to the epic MX or Dragon to drive settings over the serial port/wifi...

    you'll love this thing.

    One more benefit of Latitude:

You can run canon EF lenses via internal motors.

    Trust me, worth every penny.

Start with one Latitude "chocolate bar" if you're on a budget.

expand as your needs and budget grow.

The latitude does look very nice. Thank you
Do you know if there is a motor that an Epic thinks is an EF lens and so controls the focus as if the lens were canon mount and not PL?

I quickly read trough the Red SDK kit and the autofocus metadata is accessible. I don't know how to use it but it is exportable.

very soon foolcontrol will be able to drive RTMotion FIZ motors via latitude / wifi in addition to driving EF / Nikon mount lenses ;-)

Not at this time but soon.
Unfortunately the communication structure of WiFi does not lend itself well to low latency fast communication necessary for focus control. And I think the OP understands that he'll need external motors. AF lens control software has no advantage for PL lenses as they have no internal motors to drive focus or iris controls internally. Maybe some auto calibration routines but the amount of work to achieve these minuscule gains would be tremendous and not really practical IMO.
Not to mention that the amount of power needed for external motors necessitates external cables and sufficient power source- hence the cable spaghetti on remote focus camera setups . That's all eliminated with the AF Canon, Nikon lens control. All internal control- no cables.
We do have very extensive, smooth, repeatable control of Canon and Nikon mounted AF lenses and we have been perfecting it for 3 years now. At this time we offer the most advanced and mature options.

AFAIK RT motion motor control is proprietary and different than Heden, M-One, Cmotion, Preston, ARRI protocols. The latter are all the same- effectively "industry standard" if there is any....;-)
We are soon coming out with a module to control the "industry standard " brands....

Ah ha! I had reached out to RTMotion as I thought this was already possible, and realized that it didn't seem to be. Excellent! Please do a notification whenever this gets out there. Thanks Mikael!
