The answer is sort of yes, but if you primarily plan on shooting video, I would go with the RED. If you primarily want to shoot stills I would go with a DSLR. If you have a RED, you will want to shoot at a pretty high frame rate for sharp stills. I forgot ND filters on a trip to Africa so shot everything at 90fps and even raised the shutter to 1/2000. If the animals aren't moving much, it looked pretty sharp, but you definitely don't want motion blur in stills. If you shot video at 1/2000 for stills, then backed down to 1/48 for video it might work. Also, you will probably want autofocus when shooting stills of animals.
