  1. #1 [REVIEW] P+S 1.5x anamorphic zoom 35-70mm
    Hey guys,

I reviewed the rather new P+S Technik 1.5x anamorphic zoom 35-70mm:

I really liked the vintage look with modern glass/sharp images. Especially when the 70-200mm comes out, this could be a fairly versatile lens for different scenarios.
    What do you think?

    Best,
    Chris

This lens looks GREAT! Been wondering about it for a while. It's rehousing the Leica R 35-70, yes?

Good production values may not be noticed. Bad production values will be.

I have a feeling people might not be too excited about this, but it seems like the base lens for the P and S 35-70mm T3.2 could be a Nikon 35-70. To me the biggest giveaway is that the P and S 35-70mm T3.2 anamorphic zoom has a 7-blade iris. The Leica 35-70mm zooms have a 6-blade iris. Both the Nikon 35-70mm f2.8 and 35-70mm 3.5 have a 7-blade iris. The Nikons are quality little zooms and they made hundreds of thousands of these, so it would be easy for P and S to get plenty of cheap donor lenses that are in good condition. Of course, I am just guessing. The iris is usually one of the easiest tells with this stuff. I don't mind the idea that they might have used a Nikon zoom, but maybe if they make a version II of this lens they can swap the iris for something with more blades so that your bokeh stays oval when stopped down. It's still a really pretty lens though.

Wouldn't the base lens be a 17-35mm zoom?

All of the 2x anamorphic zoom conversions I can think of, arrive at a 2x multiplication of the focal length of the base zoom lens that they use.

That is my understanding..(unless it is a rear deal which it is not..)

1.5x squeeze. But I don't know of any base lenses that fall in the 24-50mm range... strange.
