1 out of 8 times my camera boots it gets held up in some vicious voodoo booting cycle, and freezes with "booting..." on the back screen.

3 out of 4 times that happens, I let the camera sit and eventually the fans whir up and the camera power cycles itself and it comes back to life.

The other 1 time I have to powerdown, cycle the power button and remove all AKS. Then it comes back alive.

WHY? I know this thing is a powerhouse Linux but why can it not boot up EVERY time like my Mac?

I've had the same thing, not quite as often, but it's happened about 4 times now. I just shut it down, count to ten and boot up again. That seems to work, but still makes me nervous every time.

Seems lots of people encounter this. Most suggest to disconnect all AKS then try powering up. That seems to work.

Haven't had it happen to our cameras - yet, and I hope it doesn't. All ready to send one off for repair. Works like a dream now.

Disconnect the monitor before you start-up. As soon as the camera is booting, you can connect it again. It has something to do with the shielding of the monitor-cable.

I've had this happen quite a lot as well. All I do is unplug the LCD and it boots up fine. Once it starts booting I plug the LCD in and away we go.

Happens to me about 30% of the time; I don't have to do any voodoo stuff like unplugging anything or whistling a sad tune while waiting for several seconds.

I just power down and immediately power up again and it always boots.

I did have one rather bizarre fault yesterday; upon hitting the power button the camera would immediately power back down. Happened 5 or 6 times in a row, then all normal again. Hope it's not a harbinger of things to come...

    Good shooting and best regards,

If you are seeing this - a practical recommendation is to wait ten seconds between power cycles.

If you don't then the camera may get into this boot up lock state, and then the resolution is to pull the power in LEMO and / or pull the LCD and try again.

Stuart, is it HW or SW problem? What about future? Will be RED able to fix it?

I probably posted my worse experience in the wrong place yesterday that didn't generate much response.

If anyone wants to help out or just chime in please take a look.

    Same question here.
I have the same booting problem sometimes, seems to be related to my LCD cable...

Will there be a firmware fix for that, or is it hardware ?
