  1. #1 Fan Adaptive Preview Quiet Record - weird behavior
On an Weapon Cf Helium, with latest firmware .102, the fans are set to Adaptive Preview Quiet Record and target temp is set around 43C.

When the camera is at 43 the fans are running in preview. But when I hit record, there is no drop in fan speed. They are as loud as in preview.

When I had the Epic Dragon this behavior was as it was supposed: when I hit record, the fans stop.

Since upgrading to Weapon Mg, now Weapon Cf, I can't understand what is wrong with this fan control mode. It doesn't seem to work as it should.

    Any ideas?

Have you tried adding the current fan speed percentage to your overlay? Can be helpful in figuring out what's going on.
What happens if you change your target temperature to 53 immediately before you start recording, is there a drop then?

The best I can think of is to make sure your firmware is up to date and do a full wipe of your camera. You might have an odd, bugged out setting.

I have EXCATLY the same experience with both my Mg and my Helium. Sometimes it even increases fan speed when the recording starts.

I ended up using it only on manual to control the noise. I see some refrences to fixing this in the latest 7.0.1 firmware, but I didn’t get a chance to test it yet.

I'd also love to know if the fans have been fixed. I miss Quiet Record, Adaptive Preview.

I finally resolved the issue after calling RED and almost dropped the camera in for servicing :D It was really simple.

I was ignoring the warning that said something like: "Setting the target temp above 39C can make the fan suddenly start in rec mode" ... I thought that at least it should quite down the fans and then suddenly restart them if the temp was set above 39, but the camera wasn't even stopping them in the first place if the temp was set to 43C. And that is weird because the initial temp calibration comes at 42C standard after a firmware upgrade.

Long story short, on the last firmware, the fans work as expected in Adaptive Preview Quiet Record, if the temp is set at 39C.

39c is low... does this limitation come with the new build?
