Is there anything special i need to know about REDs audio board?

I have heard that there was a problem in the past with cables.

I would like to know the issues so i do not kill anything.

Old RED cables vs. new RED cables.
    whats the difference?

And I had a guy just make me some mini XLR to standard XLR.
Is there anything i should know before i plug it into the camera?

    Thanks.

    Yes.

The RED XLR cables have resisters in them to protect the Audio board.
If you turn on a phantom power to a mic, and do not use the RED XLR cables, you run the risk of shorting your audio board.
