I agree with Guy. It’s tempting to try and price your rentals low to attract renters, but there are so many real reasons not to do that. Besides it being unfair competition, cheaper prices also tend to open you up to “cheap” renters who are not likely to take good care of your equipment. On the more immediate side, you’re way to the left of ShareGrid’s pricing guidelines for a kit of this value. If you try to make your kits too cheap, they will lower you in search results and disqualify you for badges.

Said this before, but owning gear in cali seems like a crazy catch 22 unless you are working in the upper tier. So many guys have cams that they rent for so cheap or free or whatever, but their argument is if they didn't have gear they wouldn't get considered at all

    Seems cray out west

Like I said, unless your working in an upper tier, where the clients want and expect to spend $$$

Yah it's cray. Such an oversaturated market here, for owner ops. Too many people, too many undercutting each other and too many options for gear. But at same time you can find work.

I have my gear priced to help out people. I quit working at RED a year ago, but was there for 7 years. I had calls and saw countless emails from kids, college students, and other people who wanted to shoot on a RED, but they could not afford it. As far as having gear at a lower rate and attracting "cheap" renters who wouldn't take care of the gear, I'm fine with that. I hand built many of the first EPICS that were used on the Hobbit as well as many other cameras and accessories over the years. If anything breaks or gets damaged I should know what needs to be replaced, and the cost associated with it. Also having great insurance gives me peace of mind.
