I got a Aputure cob 300d a couple of days ago and have only hade the time to briefly tested it. This is my first Aputure product and the 300d hit alot of boxes for me.

But..I totally missed that it has an extra power unit, not just the control unit. Even worse, the power unit sounds more than I like. So I wonder I I can get an extended cable so I can put the power unit further away from control unit. Is it possible to skip using the control unit for most time when you don't need to battery power it, and just use the remote to control the light?

All in all this light seams like a solid product for a great price...just need to fix this noise issue. Also I think they should be more clear about the power unit.

Most reviews on the unit have suggested getting a 20ft XLR cable to keep the fan ballast away from the fixture as far as possible. Seems like a fair compromise when you consider the price/performance factor of that light.

Yea I have no problem with this as soon I can move the power unit further away. As long as possible would be great. Thinking of getting 3 more at a later stage for spacelights. And then I really need the power units in another room.

How have you found the colour accuracy?

    Joel,

I'd recommend something along the lines of what Jonathan mentioned. Pick up a 20+ ft XLR cable to move the ballast unit away. I also read about a custom conversion mod someone did on DVXuser. He took a tool box and put some quiet fans in it. Hope that helps!

We just shot a series of tests with a spectrometer to get a feeling of color accuracy and rendition. I will post the results soon.

Cool. I just shot a pilot for a series making a lot of use of of the 120D and the LS1C and while I love the 120D I was crying out for a bit more power.

To be honest I have become increasingly suspicious of the tons of previously online reviewers who haven't really touched on the green fringing issues users were having. Aputure seems to have made a lot of friends recently. Especially in the 'celebrity filmmaking blogs' community.
