So today we had our 4th RED 5" Touch LCD Fail. These are from the older DSMC system, we have been using them with Wooden Camera Top Plates on mostly Epic-W's but occasionally on Weapon.

The touch function of the monitor continues to work but the image has many horizontal lines running through it. See the attached video. All 4 have failed with the same systems inside a 6 week period. Used on different camera bodies by different crew's in different locations, so I'm not sure what the common denominator is. Of course we've tried the common trouble-shooting steps like swapping cables, bodies, etc.

The first time it happened we RMA'ed it and sent it to RED who said they can't service the 5" anymore so they just gave us a discount on a new dsmc2 monitor. But now that we are facing the same situation with 3 more it's becoming a bit expensive.

Anyone else run into this problem? Could it be caused by WC top plates? Or maybe something in new dsmc2 firmware not liking old dsmc cameras? It's so odd that 4 of these would go bad like this in a relatively short time frame.

could be. I'm contacting WC about it as well. RED support says they have had several reports of the same symptoms.

Any idea if you have v1 or v2 of the top plate? Fastest way to tell is if there's a battery in there or not. -- https://www.woodencamera.com/Articles.asp?ID=271

Mine has worked without issue. My guess is also that it is the top plate.

Updating for people that might encounter this issue down the road. We never exactly pin-pointed the issue but WC took back all 4 of our top plates and replaced the guts of them. We also found one of our many dozens of EVF cables had some bent pins and replaced that. So far the issue hasn't come back.
