thanks, akube. better not take a chance. i'll wait and hear what's up.
As far as warranty goes, I assume that since the mount fits the exact same
way as the nikon mount, it does not replace the front backfocus mount on RED, so it should all be fine and dandy, but only red can say that for sure.
I would err on the side of caution if you are not comfortable. and wait till I have an official word from RED.
Right now the "dumb mount" option is for people that just want to stick glass on imediately. without controls.
I am going to ship the first batch on friday. (that whole thanksgiving thing tomorrow...)
The smart mount shipment should hopefully begin before christmas. so we're
getting very close.
the site is almost ready, have been dealing with some issues with UPS
account setup at the moment, so working on it....
www.andylesniak.com/red/
once it goes live you should see a "STORE" tab in the top title bar...
so check there.
Again, If you are unsure about warranty issues I would suggest wait a little
bit longer, until I can get together with RED and have some more official news.
also for anyone that wants to make it to the mount demo in NYC next week
on wednesday, PM me for directions.

Just what I figured. Sounds great Andy, thanks.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It got approval because it wasn't as invasive as the Birger mount. Great.
If I get the dumb mount now, can I upgrade to the smart pro when it becomes available?
Yes, it was said it was possible. The dumb mount is essentially the smart mount but without the electronics.
Andy
Is there only one Smart mount now, or will there still be "Smart Basic" and "Smart Pro"?
it is so amazing~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
so cool
is there any detail of the mount's demension.
i am hoping baddly to make that kind of mount for my red
