After unpacking my EVF, i recognized the Rotary Button is loose :(
I think a washer or something got loose during transportation.

Did anyone of you encounter this as well, i allready sent a Support Ticket to RED, but i wonder if someone had this too and found a way to fix it since i´d hate to send the EV back to RED.

    thanks
    Manuel

Yes I'm sure they're all loose. You need to be careful with fixing this. The rotary pot/contact switch shaft is a mm or two too short for the knob. you need the smallest amount of filler (you could use heat glue to place the 'smallest' amount in the socket of the rotary knob.
Don't glue the rotary knob to the shaft!!!
if you place too much filler the knob won't release after you press it in...in which case you need to scrap it out and start again.
Suggestion is unless you're a complete anal techo, live with it....

I found a few other problems with the EVF too. Like the rear lemo socket was loose and round the wrong way which resulted in the right angled plug (of evf cable)sticking up in the air waiting to get caught on something. If you've got the unit open, you might as well turn this socket 180 degrees (and tighten) so the cable plug face downwards.. take care with the o-ring. I'm not too sure why they sealed the outer cover and didn't seal the led that protudes out the back of the cover.
whilst we're on the subject, has anyone found flicks of dirt/dust in the sealed lens unit?

well.... let us understand once and for all, it took me awhile to accept it:
Red didn't put much in the ergonomic, the manufacturing or the design of the camera or its accessories. All what they were looking for is to produce a good image, and they made it. The rest is not something to write home about.
To what this is similar to?
My car. The engine is good but the distributor, radiator, alternator, starter and many other parts are not in good order. So once in a while I have to go to my mechanic and spend a few hundreds to thousands in order to make it run.
This is the same with Red it runs but you have to find out all kind of alternative strategic solutions in order to produce a movie.
    Will producer like that?
From what I see the answer is NO!
That is why Red owners keep loosing jobs to Sony F900 and other cameras.
The producer can't risk and waste time during a shooting day.
    Will Red survive?
If you ask OffHollywood they will tell you that their cameras are big success.
It all depends what are you using it for as I know quite a few Red owners whose cameras are dusting on the shelves.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA thats such bs and the lamest analogy I have heard in a long time. On my last 10 commercials super35mm film has lost to RED.
For the feature I start shooting in 4 weeks, we screened comparison testprints of S16mm, 35mm 2 perf and RED. Guess what won the feature? REEEEED.
While I agree that some of the accessories are not up to snuff, its really not that difficult to buy all the nice stuff that other companys make. Its a pretty modular system

In your opinion - I'm sure Jim/RED TEAM would disagree and say a lot was put into the design, etc. I for one love how it feels on my shoulder, in my hands, love the accessories (except EVF arm).... I write home, emails, phone calls - wait, there's a whole forum on this camera with people writing about the very things...... opinions are like buttholes.

I have been on plenty of shoots where time was wasted - and the camera had nothing to do with it. Producers risk. They also waste time and money.

I put a little piece of carboard down in the shaft under the knob.
