Looking into buying my first RED camera and I am curious how many brain hours would you feel comfortable buying a used Scarlet MX at?

Been using reds since the red one came out. Had two of those, two epics, upgraded one to dragon, then got a gemini. Had one fail. My opinion on these cameras is that if they are going to fail, they are going to do it sooner rather than later, so big hours means it works well. You are basically dealing with solid state electronics that should work for a long time. I don't think hours really matter short of extremes.

My Scarlet-X back in the days had 1600hours. I sold it to a friend that have it go up to 3000. Still no problem at that point until he sold it also. No idea about who bought it but I'm pretty sure it worked.

I have one I’ll be selling with only 300 hours as it was primarily a bicameral to rentals. I think you’ll get thousands of hours out of any digital cinema camera but there are plenty of low hour options to buy, so maybe the lower the better.

They have Red cameras live streaming 24/7. It's an industrial computer. It doesn't matter.

How many hours has your phone been on? Or your TV? Or your computer? Same deal, I think :)

To be precise, the hours themselves doesn't matter, but if a camera has seen a lot of hours, the possibilities of human error and misuse then increases.

I'm talking about fan settings and overheating here mostly.

I sold a Red MX with 1600+ hours. The person that bought it is still using it today. I think like most of the other comments. As long as it was taken care of and still works. It should work for many more hours.
