I know I am late to the party, BUT- I just did some very unscientific testing right now and these were my results. Currently using a maxxed out 1st ten trashcan as my main machine and compared to my maxed out MacBook Pro and a MSI Stealth I picked up to test...
Mac Pro Specs:
3.5ghz 6-Core Xeon E5
64GB 1866mhz DDR3
1TB SSD
Dual AMD FirePro D700
Macbook Pro Specs:
3.1 ghz Intel Core i7
16GB 2133mhz LPDDR3
1TB SSD
Radeon Pro 560 4GB
MSI GS65 15 Stealth 8SE Specs:
Intel i7 - 8750H 2.2ghz
16GB DDR4 2666mhz
512 GB NVMe SSD
NVIDIA GeForce RTX2060 8G GDDR6
I took an 8K 24 minute interview I shot on my RED DSMC2 Helium and tired to convert it to Prores LT at 1080 resolution. I used REDCINE X to eport the base clip with the "fully graded" version from IPP2 to "Low Contrast / Soft Falloff" setting. All source material was on the same Samsung T5 SSD and exports to the desktop of each machine (all SSD). I was a bit shocked when the results came back. Speaking of results - here they are...
Mac Pro- 1 hour 32 minutes to convert
Macbook Pro- 2 hours 36 minutes to convert
MSI- 1 hour 21 minutes to convert using OpenCL (CPU)
MSI w/ REDCINE Beta w/ CUDA support- 36 minutes
I was SHOCKED at how much faster the rendering was using the GEFORCE card on this laptop. By no means is it the fastest, or the best, nor is it indicative of real world use with Premiere / Resolve, but DAMN- that is WAY faster. Maxes me excited that Jarred has been hinting at CUDA support from Apple soon. I HOPE I dont have to make the jump to a PC. I've been using them for few hours and it feels so clunky in your hand, as well as navigating through the Windows OS. So we'll see. I am toying with the idea of having a Windows machine on hand, as my Light Illusions calibration software is PC only. Plus, not bad to have another platform to reference...
***SIDE NOTE- I also tested an off the shelf RAZER from Best Buy and couldn't even use it... I think the Razer software is so integrated into the OS that is slows everything down. It took over 22 seconds to open Adove Media encoder on that machine. Took it back and got the MSI....
Anyways- take that for what it is.. I was surprised by the results and felt compelled to share....
Until Apple and nVidia get over their BS or it's ported to Metal or OpenCL/OpenGL/something-not-proprietary, this is filed under 'woulda been nice' for me...
I mean, 1/3rd the render time on a laptop! That's dope.
Amazing as always.

8K FF Monstro
21 fps Playback in REDCINE-X (Full Debayer)
The footage was RC 10:1. 8K half debayer is around 39 fps.
