Stacey Spears from RED informed me earlier today that the

RED Apple Workflow Installer V17 was released a few days ago.

I can confirm that it does fix a bug where I could not open
R3Ds on my 2014 MBP with Nvidia 750M GPU.

I have to test more to see if it fixes other performance issues.
