Competition in the high-end CPU world is heating up…

We got our hands on a pre-release PC here at RED and it can achieve real time 8K 24fps REDCODE RAW playback with only it's new CPU, with some headroom to spare. And with this week’s R3D CUDA SDK release, you can also utilize GPU acceleration and then use that CPU horsepower for transcoding, effects processing, etc.

Can't wait to see this CPU hit the market.. I think you all will be very, very happy.

GPU acceleration off, CPU decode Only:

Well then. That has my attention. I built 3 systems this year. If this is based on what I think it will fit right into my workflow.

This is great. Loving the jump in performance computers seem to be doing lately! Hearing some crazy specs thrown around.

It's pretty impressive what AMD has been able to do with Threadripper especially at its price point vs. Intel. I wonder if the 3990X will be crazy expensive compared to the relatively reasonably priced 3960X/3970X. It'll still probably be a quite a bargain compared to even a low-mid range MacPro.

That is very interesting. I wonder if it could be a non-server version of Epyc 64 cores, maybe with higher clock frequency?

Interesting times. Our 28 core is still chugging along pretty nicely but 1 64 core or eek 2x64 core would be cool!
