it would have been super good if they allowed the red rocket x to decode the Komodo footage for people that already own them would be super nice. I assume maybe by the time the Komodo is out that the R3D maybe already integrated in metal with the mac pro having the afterburner and the nvida RTX acceleration should be in most nle's the rocket x may not be the best option any way as its discontinued. just a wish that all

Or maybe the buttons on the side of the screen can help us achieve the same thing just a little slower than via the touch interface.

I agree. It will be useful under the rain or when you wear gloves to be able to control the Komodo without the touchscreen. The use of smartphones via wifi would imply delay, right?

I'm more into viewfinders as I never use tripods and like to have my camera on my shoulder as I mainly shoot documentaries.
I'm trying to find a viewfinder that will be powered by a Canon battery and will have SDI IN, all I could find is this Zacuto (Lemo and SDI)

As I don't think the Komodo has a Lemo nor do Canon batteries have D-Tap, what is the best option according to you?

If you don't mind running a separate battery on the VF itself, there's the Zacuto Graticle. On occasion, I have run it with batteries instead of the dummy batt-to-dtap cable that I usually use and it will go several hours on a Canon "5D/dslr" battery.

That or you can choose to not use the canon batteries on the Komodo and use a V-Lock battery plate that connects to the camera via DC-IN (or dummy batteries ?) and use something like FX Lion NANO ONE and run a D-Tap to Lemo cable to a Zacuto Gratical.

EDIT : don't forget that RED themself MAY have some sort of EVF solution planned for those pins on the top of Komodo's body as well.

I feel like it must be pretty rough for the guys at RED to see feature requests and demands this late in the game if they aren't in line with the plans that be. But I can also imagine that it feels good when someone requests something that is already being tested, or is possible but remains un-announced. Guess I'll flip a coin.

    1. Is it possible to use this as a true, functional stills camera? It has a global shutter. It's small enough...
    2. A hand grip with a well placed and tactile shutter release would be Dope. As. Hell.
    3. And most importantly, a non-electronic Nikon F2 style finder for the built in top screen? Pretty please?

Komodo has two lemo type connectors on the back, one for DC power plus an AUX port with so far unknown functions.

There is supposed to be wireless control via phone, but not wireless video monitoring. Phones will connect via wired USB-C cradle mounted to the top pogo pin interface for monitoring and control. Other EVF or monitor options connect via SDI.

iPhones use lightening connectors, not USB-C.
