Just found this out today. When did this happen? It was a such a convince for any RED users in NYC.
It's becoming harder and harder to justify staying with this brand... very sad.

Didn't know they closed, like there's nothing there?

Abel Cine NY has RED gear the last time I was in the hood.

Just got an email from Abel today that they have finished moving to their new place in Brooklyn. Since they're a RED dealer and do classes, etc. maybe that made more sense to have a big dealer with a toy showroom than keeping a factory location open.

Didn't go down, Luckily I called first. That place saved my ass a few times when I had a camera go down, and they were able to get me a replacement, exc. Had screenings there, it was really a spot that I felt made RED a presence in the city.

Yeah I guess, but its not really the same thing.. it was a family feeling there. And the thought of having to go to Brooklyn gives me heartburn...

I know they had flooding and water damage. That may also have something to do with it.

That stinks, but hopefully that's what it is.

At first there was the sign about water damage, but now the store is for rent:

That is a total bummer, and troubling to see. I am sure there are some big changes going on at RED. Brent, RED Stores closing.. A few professional RED shooters I know here were really turned off by the massive price drop last year, Myself included. It felt like RED just wanted to get a camera in every skateboard kid hands.. and that same demographic are the ones who turned and went crazy over Jinimag.. you got to be careful who you want lifting up your company.. There is no way I will invest what I have in the past in RED after that price cut. It was a last straw for myself and many other professionals here in the city.

I've said it before: RED could have been cynical and charged more so that their philosophy would be seen as the Holy Grail of motion capture. People get suspicious when you have the best product out there for a really good price - sometimes, anyway. BTW I don't have an issue with your position - I think it's entirely fair. You run a business, after all.

Edit: That's a nice looking storefront, too.
Good production values may not be noticed. Bad production values will be.
