If by "compromise" you mean context-related judgement calls to establish some practical reference - yes.

And the compromise here is related to which properties you can compare in which context, to what extent.

That's what I was thinking too.

Or heck, even throw in a GH5S/BMPCC4K/E2/X-T3/Z6 etc and will shock people.

It's due to a lot of things, transformation route being one of them. And it's avoidable.

    1) Evin's test, flaws and all, still gives valuable perspective on what one can expect from each camera in common usage.

    2) Bayer pattern decoding algorithms authored to optimize the results from a particular sensor/signal path can dramatically impact perceived performance.

    3) It's likely that the MILF did well on the over/under test due to it's dual gain architecture.

    4) IMO, even the most ideal testing method is still too dependent on interactive factors that cannot be equalized to be definitive.

Being able to record RAW sensor data for construction of desired RGB imagery gives the image author tremendous power. It also introduces so many variables that comparisons are problematic.

    Cheers - #19
