Why did Red stop making camera accessories?
On the Red website there used to be loads, now there is just brains, monitor, media and a few other essentials.
Curious what happened?

Nice first post! Congrats for joining.
Making room for DSMC3. You have to slow down and stop production on accessories at some point. I'm sure some resellers may have stock on some stuff but the used marketplace may be your best bet. This is not to say that DSMC3 is coming soon but my guess is next year.

Thanks for the welcome, Patrick.
And thanks for the answer, Bob.
Based on what is happening with Komodo, I think Red may be moving more toward a philosophy of third party collaboration for many accessories, even recording media. One might consider GDU as an accessories spinoff company from Red.
Makes sense for Red to concentrate on sensor and camera development. That is where they truly excel.
The market for third party accessories has expanded considerably since Red was introduced. Why expend the resources to merely add branded versions of common mechanical items that multiple others already make?
Arri on the other hand is historically a broad spectrum manufacturer of a full range of production gear, not just a camera maker.
Red has pursued design and marketing of many unique products in the past when they saw a potential market, some successful some not, but often abandoned them when third party manufacturers did it better or newer tech made them irrelevant.
New camera development and innovation has exploded in the past decade. Red has enough challenge to maintain their lead there going forward.
Remember RED did some opitcs rehousing for S35mm use as it was all new that indie owner wanted to have PL lenses.
The market was badly lacking of lenses.
Now like with the lenses, they are tons of good accessories made for RED (and other) cameras.
I suspect GDU to pick up where RED left off when it comes to DSMC3 accessories. Im expecting GDU batteries, chargers, media, grips, quick release plates, baseplates, cages/expansion modules, etc.. Interested to see what shakes out.
