Here are two opinions for and against buying an Intel based Mac vs an Apple Silicon Mac

Why you SHOULD Buy an Intel-Based Mac! ( ARM can WAIT)

There are some interesting ideas in the videos.

At 5nm - TSMC will be introducing its WoW (wafer on wafer technology) to stack SoC in 3D.

High bandwidth transfer of data between CPU, GPU and Memory consumes a sizeable proportion of energy budget, and increases latency in proportion to the distance travelled.

Perhaps Apple will ultimately move to a high speed ARM mesh of 3D ‘stacklets’ (CPU, GPU, DSP, local memory)?

Intel may ‘crack’ 3D cooling with Foveros - But Apple can sink R&D monies into a (hugely complex) 3D design that could scale from the Watch to the Desktop.

If Apple manages to get Metal to consistently outperform x86 + Nvidia (AMD) - Would enthusiasts, gamers and professionals slowly migrate?

    Anthony,

I think the main thing is at what point will programs become "optimized " for the apple silicon processor and apple GPU so that an Intel based Mac won't be a viable option in terms of heat, power and performance anymore. It might take only a very short time to show the heat and power benefits of Arm based Apple processors over Intel based processors, but when will the performance of the Arm based processors meet or exceed the performance of Intel based processors for the higher-end more "demanding" programs we use everyday.
