  1. #1 New Viewfinder (EVF) has occasionally Green and Pink Noise in Dark Areas
    Hello,

our Viewfinder arrived today and shooting with it all day long, it had the following Problem 2 times: Suddenly in the EVF you see in some Areas Green or Pink Noise, kind of like the False Color display but only in Areas with a specific Stop. Also not very helpful noise. HDSDI does not have it. RED LCD might have it too, but cant check since it doesnt work at all anymore since 3 days.

The only Solution to bring the EVF back to normal was unplugging the cable and plugging in Again.

Any Ideas ? Could it be Camera or EVF ?

    Greetings

    Alex

Nothing beats an optical viewfinder, IMHO.

But, then again, maybe that's just me.

P+S Technik is supposedly working on an optical viewfinder option for their IMS solution for the RED One.

Maybe Sanjin can tell you more. He's been to Ottobrunn many times before.

I've had similar issues with flashing RGB colors in the darker parts of the image in the EVF occasionally. (this is not the "eye movement" issue that's been brought up before.) I can't get the problem to recur reliably, so I haven't been able to test out whether it's the cable as RED said it might be.

Yes it isnt related to Eye Movement, really.

It was also in dark parts of the picture.

We had a similare noise issue with the LCD some weeks ago but only once and so i thought it was just a hickup and was fine.

i will change the cable today and see if the error will be coming again

Unfortunately you are right it is difficult to reproduce this error by own means.

The Reason for this Noise could be:

    1. cable not sitting correctly and through not having contact in one of the pins for a short period, and that screwing up the following decode of the Picture Stream into the EVF.

    2. EVF gets too Hot and then produces a processing error.

I was able in the past to make it go away (for a while) by toggling Dark Detail off and back on. ...But then the problem would recur.

I've seen the freaky noise in dark areas as well.

I don't think it's #2, because we've had the same issue and normally it happens when we first turn the camera on, i.e. it's cold. My guess is it's the contacts, unplugging and plugging back in always fixes it.
    best regards,
