  1. #1 Does the Komodo offer timelapse?
The Komodo will be my first cinema camera and I'm wondering will it time-lapse?

Not currently, it has been a feature that has been discussed and I think it is planned however they have just had many other things to finish before the official launch. I am eager to have this feature as well.

Kind of waiting on the same thing. It would be invaluable to have the Komodo do time laps or interval time. While shooting my other RED at the same time. If the TL function worked I could justify getting rid of a couple of my DSLRs.

I am also. I suspect it will come to Komodo eventually, because AFAIK all of Red's other cameras have it, so it's probably not in there yet because it's not a launch blocker.

Is it possible on Weapon to timelapse with long shutter like 4 or 8 sec? Or do we have to do frame averaging?
    Thanks

    Hi Pat,

This is a bit off-topic here, but who knows which features are being added in future firmware updates for Komodo.
According to the ops manual, your camera can do time lapse. As far as I know, using frame averaging (keeping the look of the set exposure with the benefit of reduced noise), or frame summing (final image gets brighter and probably noisier the more frames you add) are the only options for longer exposures than 1 second. Check these links below:

Longest shutter on DSMC2 is 1 second.

I suspect Timelapse is coming to Komodo, but likely in a very different implementation than many would think.

If I had to guess advanced recording options such as that will be dished off to RED Control rather than in camera.

That make sense, since the larger screen will make the larger number of parameters easier to view and edit.

+1 for Timelapse as well as low frame rates (i think the lowest it does is whatever the project base rate is?)

I don't know what the standby power is like. I understand boot up times are quite long (same as other Reds) but the DSMC2 has a low power mode.

I can see a use for Komodo doing stills, something that is not that practical on a DSMC2 so i would love to see a low power mode that sleeps the camera/turns sensor off but keeps the firmware going so there's no boot time - any idea whether there is a chance of this?

    cheers
